How to be nominated for a contest

Bad Example

Better One

First of all, there isn't a way to be sure that you are be nominated for the tips that I will give you. I will talk for my personal experience, I been nominated two times, so I have a few advices to give.

1º Before you start doing your look, go see the style hint on the contest description. In it, you can have a felling of what Looklet wanna see in your look. For example, there's a contest for win a leather vest and in the style hint it says "We wanna see the rockstar that is inside you!". For this contest you need to make the best rock look that you possibly can (remember, this is only a example!).

Pick a creative Theme - You can have a great rock look, but if the title says "Alice in Wonderland", you probally won't be picked. Try to think about what inspires you or what you wanna say with a rock look. Is always good to check everyones looks so you have a knowlegde of what everyone does so you make it different.

Make the look Memorable - You need to remember that when Looklet picks the nomines they see over 10,000 looks, do what you possibly can to make your look stand out. Use dramatic sholders, a crazy hat, a mix of colours and prints, a great effect etc. Try to make your personal style unique.

Let everyone know about your look - After finally save your look, tell everyone that you know (or don't) to check your look and tell you what they think. Sometimes a good critique of a friend (or not :)) can make your look change for the best. And if you get lots of votes even better, because it will make your nomination easier to win, if you be nominated of course ;-)

I hope this can be a help to some of you, comment if you want to add something to this message or just to say thanks ;-)

Thanks for readding

I agree with most of your very sound advice but would like to add a few things that might also help all those aspiring Lookleteers. There's nothing more off-putting than begging for hearts. It can be a real turn off and therefore counter-productive. However, a few well-placed sincere comments (and it's easy to spot the frauds!) will get you a whole host of comments, friends and followers. I am very fortunate to have genuine followers who sincerly appreciate my looks. I have only converted them to friends because I likewise value their styling abilities and comments - yourself included!

I also get the impression that the Looklet team is so small that it cannot possibly sift through tens of thousand of entries, but contents itself with selecting the looks with the highest number of hearts. As we all know this is no indication of talent. Consequently, and judging by some of the nominees, there is some real talent that is being ignored and discouraged, and there is no democratic recognition of their abilities.

Perhaps what is most discouraging to many of us is the huge number of bugs on the site, impossibility to tuck shirts into skirts, combine hats with headscarves, etc, which is my real bug bear. I've seen capes that end up on the model's head like some bizarre wig (which has its own charm!), umbrellas that don't open, shirts that promise to hang open, when they remain firmly shut, etc. Apparently the Looklet team are aware of these and are working on it!

To conclude, however, Looklet is not all about fashion, although this will ultimately be the driving commercial aim with links to retail outlets etc. It is far superior to its main rival Couturious, despite the weak backgrounds and inability to combine effects. To me, as a keen photographer, Looklet is far far more, it's an image-making opportunity that is unsatisfied by all the online styling sites, software programs and blogs currently in existence.
There is so little of interest written about Looklet, so bravo on your blog, the more people who can give vent to their frustrations the better.
You get out of it what you put in and therein lies the enjoyment!
Bye for now and good luck with the current contest, I know you'll be pulling out all the stops as usual!

  2. Combining effects or adding multiple similar items (e.g. shoes and hats) is very difficult. You have to change the code in the url etc. But now it became very easy! Check http://virtual-stylist.blogspot.com and click on Looklet Tools and you'll see how easy it is!

    Cheers,
