Looklet Love Contests

There is a new blog for all you Looklet Addicts! It's called Looklet Love Contests. The creator is Jackie, Raven_Night from Looklet.

Why we love contests? That is the question. In my opinion, I love contests because it is a challenge! Is great to be challenged from someone else and proove that we can make something interesting with it. It's the main reason because I enter Looklet Contests, Looklet says that they want a tipe of look and we play with that tipe of look. It's lots of fun! Sometimes hard, but when I find it more difficult is when I try harder to make better looks and it's when I am shorlisted!

For example, in the wrangler contest I was having a hard time making a look that I like. I find it so hard, and the style hint was even harder to understand (the full denim look is timeless). First of all, I hate full denim looks, so make one that I like was very hard! And timeless? What is harder that make a timeless look that goes with my style? By the way, I like making edgy looks so is hard...

I had only one choice, mix different tips of denim and textures so I make the look interesting. I starded thinking in making the best rockstar look that I possibly can. And why is that? No idea... I am fascinated with Rock & Roll and the 80's so I just have fun making a look about that. Finally, I finished my look and I was ready to save it but the title was missing so I decided to name it: Be a Rockstar. The mensage is: you can be a rockstar when ever you want because you ARE! Is more like something that I say to my self when I am not inspired, I just say BE A ROCKSTAR! I am glad that I won and that lots of people love my look, I became "famous" in Looklet because of that look so I say thank you to all Looklet.

But I am missing the real point here. Jackie ask me to be one of the judges of the conteststo her blog. I imediatly said YES! So cool being not to long ago a stranger in Looklet and now people actually like visiting my page. I still can't belive it that someone likes my looks and my sence of fashion. People always tould me that I was weird and way to dreamer. I can't belive that people from other countries like me. I still think I am dreaming!

I found this label a while ago and I found it so interesting that I would love to play in Looklet with some of their clothes. Minimal designes but with a strong structure and a almost menswear tailoring.

The label Spon Diogo is composed by designers Mia Lisa Spon and Rui Andersen Rodrigues Diogo in Copenhagen.

Why I haven been posting nothing...

As you may noticed, I have been not posting anything in the last month at least. The reason is because I have been very busy with school and last month I been working in a photoshoot that took more time that I though.
I am really sorry for the wait but I will post more interesting things for you to see.

User Images - The secret of Success

This may be the secret to have a page full of visitors. A good User Image can attract curious users that wanna know more about your style. But for this you need to know exactly what your style is. If your style is more romantic and feminine, a punk image may not be the best choice, so you need to make a serious google search to found the perfect image that describes you.

If you want to use a picture of you (or something that you have) make sure that the quality of the picture is good and (most important) be creative with the photo. For example: make a selection of some objects that you love (like a perfume, a bow and a portrait of you) or take a picture of you with a t-shirt made by you that says "click here!" , think outside the box and you will see results soon. :)

Some more tips for a good user image:

Use strong colours - Strong colours aren't discrete at all, so it may attract many users. If you make some unusual combinations of colours it may attract even more users.

Fashion images are always good - When you use fashion images in a fashion site, of course you will be more appriciated, however, pick them well. Runway images aren't the best to choose from, it looses the details and looks confusing in a smal size. Photo shoots are a better choice or a tribute to a fashion designer could be even better.

Use photoshop - Sometimes the image isn't quite perfect, so making a couple changes in photoshop will make it better. You can make everything in there so be criative.

Use creative pictures of your idols - It's great that you have idols that you love so much that you wanna put them as your user image. But I need to be honnest, sometimes it can be boring. Again, be creative and show to the world why you love them. If you like Lady Gaga or David Bowie (as I do), seach in the web some illustrations or collages of them, there's some really great work made by very talented people. Or you can do it your self.

How to be nominated for a contest

First of all, there isn't a way to be sure that you are be nominated for the tips that I will give you. I will talk for my personal experience, I been nominated two times, so I have a few advices to give.

1º Before you start doing your look, go see the style hint on the contest description. In it, you can have a felling of what Looklet wanna see in your look. For example, there's a contest for win a leather vest and in the style hint it says "We wanna see the rockstar that is inside you!". For this contest you need to make the best rock look that you possibly can (remember, this is only a example!).

2º Pick a creative Theme - You can have a great rock look, but if the title says "Alice in Wonderland", you probally won't be picked. Try to think about what inspires you or what you wanna say with a rock look. Is always good to check everyones looks so you have a knowlegde of what everyone does so you make it different.

3º Make the look Memorable - You need to remember that when Looklet picks the nomines they see over 10,000 looks, do what you possibly can to make your look stand out. Use dramatic sholders, a crazy hat, a mix of colours and prints, a great effect etc. Try to make your personal style unique.

4º Let everyone know about your look - After finally save your look, tell everyone that you know (or don't) to check your look and tell you what they think. Sometimes a good critique of a friend (or not :)) can make your look change for the best. And if you get lots of votes even better, because it will make your nomination easier to win, if you be nominated of course ;-)
